The Hearthside Wood Carrier

A low, open-ended canvas sling for moving split firewood from porch to hearth, with handles wrapped fully around the body so webbing carries the weight.

The Heavy Hearth Pad

A thick, flexible oven pad with a natural outer shell, dense cotton batting and an insulated inner layer. A back hand pocket turns it into a potholder or a trivet.

Care
Machine wash only if every material is washable, and dry completely before use. Inspect after each wash and retire any pad that is scorched, thinning, torn, or no longer insulating.

Handmade oven pads reduce heat transfer but are not fireproof. Use only when completely dry. Never use a damp pad, place it in an oven, expose it to flame, or rely on it for long contact with very hot cookware. Stop at once if heat comes through.

The Heritage Leather Table Trivets

Saddle-stitched vegetable-tanned leather trivets for warm serving bowls, teapots and dishes, with a quietly debossed Finch mark. They will darken and take on a patina with use.

Where we buy cloth and supplies. These are places we use, not endorsements, and we have no arrangement with any of them.

Canvas and utility cloth

  • Big Duck Canvas

    Natural cotton duck in many weights — 7 oz for lighter aprons, 10 to 12 oz for totes, heavier for the wood carrier.

  • Fabric Wholesale Direct

    Heavyweight cotton duck with published weight and width.

  • Chicago Canvas

    Natural cotton duck and utility canvas in heavier constructions.

Linen and natural fibers

Insulation and structural supplies

  • Insulated lining

    Insul-Bright or a comparable sewing-specific reflective lining, used with cotton batting rather than on its own.

  • Batting

    Dense needle-punched cotton batting without scrim for anything that meets warm cookware.

  • Webbing

    Cotton webbing for the softest heritage finish; verified heavy webbing for wood carriers and load-bearing handles.

  • Thread

    Quality all-purpose polyester for utility seams, heavy-duty polyester for canvas carriers. Cotton thread scorches sooner and is no substitute for insulation.
